Up to Alexandra Palace for the first time this season to take on CIPA-ITMA. We arrived in dribs and drabs; hence when Richard broke his coin-spinning curse he opted to bat. Very handy opening spell from Headley and Milton claimed the scalp of Laurence and David was run out early on by some good fielding. Debasis looked imperious as ever, making it easier for the skipper who also found some form. Debasis retired on 28; Richard batted with Conor (bowled for 1) and was then run out trying to accelarate. Mahender and Nik were excellent in getting us to 121 – possibly a few runs shy of par as although the outfield is lush and slow, the track is good.
CIPA-ITMA’s opening stand didn’t last the first over as Graham moved around well at Cover to take the catch off Nik. Bruce and Wilson played well together, making handsome shots, until Shahed bowled the left-handed Wilson with a pearler of a delivery, pitching on middle and hitting the top of off. Nik shortly after skittled Irwin and we were ahead when Shahed took a return catch to dismiss Hunter. Graham did extremely well to get Bruce to hole out to Nik at Cover for a well made 24. Granty played some risky shots to good effect until Mahender undid him. CIPA-ITMA got back on terms as Milton and Dean both reached double figures – though Mahender then accounted for both of them. Opposition skipper Spurr rose to the occasion, playing an excellent innings of 20 (despite wickets falling at the other end) to leave us defeated by the slender margin of 2 wickets.
